Fed Cup: Belgium wins the tie

Poland has lost 2:3 against Belgium in in the Fed Cup (World Group 2) match played in Bydgoszcz. Unfortunately Marta was defeated in both of her matches.

On Saturday Marta shown solid tennis battling with WTA Top 20 player Yanina Wickmayer. In the end the Belgian player prevailed winning 4:6, 6:1, 6:3. On Sunday Marta played against Kirsten Flipkens. After a bad start (0:5) the match became extremely close, however, it was Flipkens who won it 6:3, 7:6(6).

Today in the morning Marta has left Poland. She is on her way to USA to participate in 2 tournaments: in Midland (ITF 100.000$) and Memphis (WTA 220.000$).

FED Cup: Poland vs. Belgium

Marta has replaced injured Urszula Radwańska and will represent Poland in the Fed Cup (World Group 2) match against Belgium. This tie will be played on Saturday and Sunday in Bydgoszcz.

The Polish team (Agnieszka Radwańska, Marta Domachowska, Alicja Rosolska, Klaudia Jans) is lead by Tomasz Wiktorowski, while the Belgian team including Yanina Wickmayer, Kirsten Flipkens, Sofie Oyen, An-Sophie Mestach by former TOP 20 player Sabine Appelmans.

Right after this match Marta will fly to USA to participate in 2 tournamnets: Dow Coring Tennis Classic, Midland (ITF 100.000$) and Regions Morgan Keegan Championships & the Cellular South Cup, Memphis (WTA, 220.000$).

Australian Open: Marta defeated in qualies

This week Marta participated in her first tournament of the year - qualifications for Australian Open. She was seeded 24th and played her opening match against Sofia Arvidsson from Sweden.

It was a dramatic match that lasted for more then 2h and 30 minutes. Marta was down 1:3 in decisive set before she fought back to break Sofia’s serve at 4:4. Serving for match Marta had a 30:0 lead and a match point at 40:30 - it was not enough. Sofia used her 3rd match point with Marta serving at 5:6.
After a dramatic match Sofia Arvidsson defeated Marta 6:2, 4:6, 7:5. After two next victories she reached Australian Open main draw.
