Marta advanced into the main draw of Istanbul Cup! She passed through qualifications beating: Oksana Kalashnikova 7:5, 6:4 , Karolina Pliskova 1:6, 6:0, 7:6(12) and finally Vesna Manasieva 6:4, 4:6, 6:4. Lots of drama was on court during the match against Pliskova as both players were having several match points.
On Tuesday, around 2PM CET Marta will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russia in first round. |

Portoroz: Marta back in action

After quite a long break Marta is back on courts! She is playing in qualifications for WTA Banka Koper Slovenia Open in Portoroz.
Marta was seeded 8th and played her first match against Ana Vrljic from Croatia. Unfortunately she lost it easily 0:6, 1:6.
After this tournament Marta will compete in two other WTA tournaments: Istanbul Cup and e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open (Copenhavn). |

Warsaw: Piter beats Marta

Marta has lost 6:7(3), 6:4, 5:7 her first round match at Polsat Warsaw Open 2010 (WTA, 600.000$) against another Polish player Katarzyna Piter. Both players received from organizers a wild card entry to the main draw.
The match began on Monday, however, was postponed at 1 set apiece due to rain that was bothering this tournament since the first day. On Tuesday it was Katarzyna Piter who manage to win the decisive set 7:5 and reach round two.
Right after her defeat Marta went to the airport to catch the plane to Paris.

Memphis: Sofia beats Marta yet again

Matches between Marta and Sofia Arvidsson used to be dramatic and last 3 sets - and that was the story of their 6th meeting that occurred in Memphis at Regions Morgan Keegan Championships & the Cellular South Cup.
Both players met already once this year during Australian Open 1st round of qualification with Sofia wining the match after previously saving a match point. Yet again, she found the way to beat Marta and won the 2 hour and 10 minutes match in Memphis 5:7, 6:4, 6:3.
Marta has also been in action in doubles competition. Together with Anne Keothavong they were beaten 6:3, 6:4 by American double Oudin/Perry.

Earlier this week Marta had beaten two American players, both in straight sets - 6:1, 7:5 seeded 2nd Vania King in round one and 6:2, 6:4 Lilia Osterloh for a place in quaterfinal.
In semifinal Marta was beaten 6:3, 6:1 by seeded 3rd Elena Baltacha from Great Britain, who later claimed the title. |

Fed Cup: Belgium wins the tie

Poland has lost 2:3 against Belgium in in the Fed Cup (World Group 2) match played in Bydgoszcz. Unfortunately Marta was defeated in both of her matches.
On Saturday Marta shown solid tennis battling with WTA Top 20 player Yanina Wickmayer. In the end the Belgian player prevailed winning 4:6, 6:1, 6:3. On Sunday Marta played against Kirsten Flipkens. After a bad start (0:5) the match became extremely close, however, it was Flipkens who won it 6:3, 7:6(6).
Today in the morning Marta has left Poland. She is on her way to USA to participate in 2 tournaments: in Midland (ITF 100.000$) and Memphis (WTA 220.000$). |

FED Cup: Poland vs. Belgium

Marta has replaced injured Urszula Radwańska and will represent Poland in the Fed Cup (World Group 2) match against Belgium. This tie will be played on Saturday and Sunday in Bydgoszcz.
The Polish team (Agnieszka Radwańska, Marta Domachowska, Alicja Rosolska, Klaudia Jans) is lead by Tomasz Wiktorowski, while the Belgian team including Yanina Wickmayer, Kirsten Flipkens, Sofie Oyen, An-Sophie Mestach by former TOP 20 player Sabine Appelmans.

Australian Open: Marta defeated in qualies

This week Marta participated in her first tournament of the year - qualifications for Australian Open. She was seeded 24th and played her opening match against Sofia Arvidsson from Sweden.
It was a dramatic match that lasted for more then 2h and 30 minutes. Marta was down 1:3 in decisive set before she fought back to break Sofia’s serve at 4:4. Serving for match Marta had a 30:0 lead and a match point at 40:30 - it was not enough. Sofia used her 3rd match point with Marta serving at 5:6.
After a dramatic match Sofia Arvidsson defeated Marta 6:2, 4:6, 7:5. After two next victories she reached Australian Open main draw. |

Marta and Michaela Krajicek reached doubles final of Internationaux Feminins de la Vienne (ITF Chall. 100.000$). In semifinal Marta and Michaella defeated 6:4, 6:4 Yuliana Fedak & Lesya Tsurenko from Ukraine.
In final, played on Sunday, Marta and Michaella lost 3:6, 6:3, [3:10] against Julie Coin and Marie-Eve Pelletier.
That was Marta’s last tournament of the year. |

In Austria she defeated 6:3, 6:3 Janina Toljan before being eliminated 6:3, 6:2 by seeded 1st in qualies Aravane Rezai from France.
In Luxembourg Marta has crashed out in 1st round of qualification being beaten 1:6, 6:3, 6:4 by seeded 4th Petra Martic.
This week Marta is playing in Poitiers (France), same ITF tournament she managed to win back in 2007. Seeded 2nd in qualies she defeated 6:2, 6:2 Lesya Tsurenko and 6:4, 6:4 Mona Barthel. In decisive match Marta faced Anna Lapushchenkova same player Marta defeated in final in 2007. This time Anna was better, she defeated Marta 6:4, 6:4 and advanced to main draw. In Poitiers Marta is also in action in doubles tournament together with Michaella Krajicek from the Netherlands. They defeated 6:0, 6:0 French pair Brouleau / Garcia. |

Marta was defeated in singles and doubles quaterfinals of Istambul Cup.
On Thursday together with Natalie Grandin she lost 6:7(5), 1:6 against Czech team of Lucie Hradecka and Renata Voracova.
On Friday Marta was again playing against Hradecka. Marta was losing 1:6, 1:5 but she managed to win second set 7:5. However, in decisive set Lucie was better wining it 6:4.

French Open: Quick exit for Marta

This year’s French Open was not a successful one for Marta. She was eliminated in firsts round of both, singles and doubles competition.

This week Marta was playing Warsaw Open - WTA tournament in her hometown. In first round she defeated Akgul Amanmuradova 6:2, 6:1 showing some really good tennis. In round two seeded 8th Alona Bondarenko was too solid and consistent. She defeated Marta 6:3, 6:1.

Health problems (a flu) forced Marta to withdraw from Federation Cup. She also did not go to Paris where she was supposed to play in WTA tournament. Instead going to Paris Marta visited hospital with a inflammation of the appendix suspicion. Thankfully the doctors decided that the surgery is not needed and Marta has already begun to practise.

Being top seeded in her team Marta faced world ranked 34th Caroline Woźniacki from Denmark in her singles match and managed to defeat her in straight sets 6:4, 6:2. On the other hand, in doubles Marta together with Anda Perianu from Romania were beaten 3:6, 7:5, (10:6) by Czech team Klara Zakopalova and Renata Voracova.

At the end Marta finished 4th in Suzuki Warsaw Masters exhibition tournament played in Warsaw last week.
In Saturday’s semifinal after an interesting match Marta was beaten 7:5, 6:3 by her friend Maria Kirilenko. On Sunday Marta played for 3rd place against Elena Dementieva. This time Elena managed to revenge on Marta for the group stage defeat winning 6:3, 6:3.
Unfortunately Marta didn’t score any WTA ranking points. However, we all hope that the experienced gained in Warsaw and self confidence that must have increased after wining group matches will help Marta in future. On Thursday Marta is going to Rome to participate in Internazionali BNL d’Italia qualifications.

After two victories Marta won her group at Suzuki Warsaw Masters exhibition tournament played in Warsaw. That means Marta will play in Saturday’s semifinal.
On Wednesday Marta played against Agnieszka Radwańska. After losing 1st set 6:7(1) Marta easily won the second one 6:2. Then Radwańska decided to retire from this match.

Charleston: Marta defeated in 1st round

Marta was eliminated in first round of Family Circle Cup (WTA Tier 1) played in Charleston. Today she was beaten by world ranked 14th and seeded 11th Agnieszka Radwańska 6:4, 4:6, 6:3.
In first set Marta was serving at 4:3, but she was unable to win any of next 4 games. 3rd game of 2nd set decided about the whole set. It lasted more then 10 minutes and Marta managed to break Agnieszka’s serve. Since then both player were wining their own service games. In final set Marta missed early opportunity to break for 1:0, and then found herself being broken in next game. Trailing 0:2 she fought back to level the score at 2:2. 8th game decided about the match. After few deuces Marta got broken, and then Agnieszka won her own service game leading 5:3.

"Finally, we saw Agnieszka Radwanska play Marta Domachowska. I was really looking forward to this match, and it more than met my expectations. Whoever plays in the final will have to put on quite a show to top what went on this afternoon between the two Polish women on the Althea Gibson Club Court. Both women hit breathtaking groundstrokes, and both served extremely well. Domachowska was strong on both sides, and Radwanska used the defensive lob successfully over and over. There was also some good volleying. I was cheering for Domachowska and was disappointed when she lost, but it was so close--a point here and a point there made the difference. When the 2008 Family Circle Cup is over and done, I may still think that this was the best match of all."

In January this year they played in 4th round of Australian Open Grand Slam tournament with Venus wining the match 6:4, 6:4. Overall this will be 5th meeting between Marta and Venus. US-player leads the head to head 3:1, but the only Marta’s victory came after walkover at China Open’05.

Marta reached second round of Sony Ericsson Open WTA T1 tournament in Miami after dramatic 6:4, 0:6, 7:6(6) victory over Jill Craybas from USA. Match lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes.
After wining 1st set Marta lost next 7 games, and was 1:0 down in decisive set. However she was able to break Jill serve and hold her own service game for 5:3 lead. Problems with entering www.domachowska.com

First of all I have to apologize all Marta’s fans. For last few day it was not possible to enter the site as the monthly bandwidth limit has been exceeded. During the day that Marta played against Venus Willimas in 4th round of Australian Open more then 10 000 people entered www.domachowska.com - it was by far the new record of visitors in almost 6 year history of this website. In last 2 years it did not event happen that this website reached 50% of its bandwidth limit throughout the whole month. When Marta was successfully playing in Melbourne it reached 100% of the limit just in few days.
Marta’s performance in Australia resulted in 171 points added to WTA ranking. Since Monday Marta is once again ranked among 100 best tennis players in the world. She moved up from position 146 to 82.
At the moment Marta is in Poland, training and preparing for next tournaments. She was not nominated to Polish team for Federation Cup, in which Radwańska sisters are the main players and their father is the capitan. Next week Marta is going to Chile to participate in WTA event in Vina del Mar. Right after this she will play one more WTA event in South America - in Bogota. Lately Marta decided to withdraw form Acapulco tournament. She will come back home to prepare for big tournaments in USA. |

Australian Open: Venus too strong

Marta’s fantastic run at this year Australian Open has come to an end. After really good performance Marta was beaten 6:4, 6:4 by Venus Williams in last 16. Match was played at Rod Laver Arena and lasted 1 hour and 19 minutes.
Right after first few points Marta has shown us that she is not afraid to challenge Venus Williams. She was playing very aggressively. Some huge winners helped Marta to break Venus serve in 3rd game. Even Williams looked a bit surprised. Marta managed to held for 3:1, but then Venus raised level of her game, and Marta started making more errors. At 3 all Marta once again broke Venus, but that was the last game she won in that set. In second set both players were holding their serves till 4:3. Then Marta got broken, but still managed to re-break Venus and stay in the match. Serving at 4:5 down Marta had her chanced to level the score but finally Venus grabbed that game and won the match 6:4, 6:4.
Marta showed really good tennis during her match against Williams. She was aggressive, had a solid serve and even tried to dictate the tempo of rallies. Marta had more winners, but unfortunately also more unforced errors. Despite the defeat we all should be happy with that performance, and look forward for Marta’s next tournaments.

In last 16 of Australian Open event Marta will face seeded 8th and 6 times Grand Slam tournament winner Venus Williams from USA. This match has been scheduled as Monday’s 2nd match on Rod Laver Arena - most likely around 2:30 AM CET, and will be probably shown on Eurosport.
Marta has already twice played against the great Venus Williams. Back in 2005 during Amelia Island on green clay Venus won in 3 sets - 3:6, 6:4, 6:2. A bit more then 3 months ago in quaterfinal of Seul WTA event Venus won once again - this time in straight sets 6:2, 6:3. They were supposed to play once again - qf of Beijing WTA tournament, but Venus withdraw before the match started. |

Australian Open: Marta into last 16 !!

Marta’s greatest tennis success happened today. She advanced to last 16 of Australian Open !! It was possible thanks to 3rd round 2:6, 6:2, 6:4 victory over seeded 24th Na Li from China. Match lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes.
First and second set were quite similar - just the winner was different. Break scored at early stage of the set was decisive. Both Marta and Na were playing very aggressively, quickly trying to finish almost every rally. After losing 2nd set Na Li decided to change her tactic. She tried to play more consistently making less unforced errors. Third set was definitely the best - some really nice points were played. Marta took an early chance to break for 2:1, but Na broke back immediately. Marta was serving at 2:3 and was 15:40 down. Thankfully she hold her nerves and saved 2 break points, and managed to level the score. Good returns and Na unforced errors in 9th gem helped Marta to break Na Li serve. Serving for match Marta stayed tough hitting an ace at the 1st match point. We could have really seen Marta smiling after the final point.

Throughout the whole match Marta’s serve was very solid. Very often with a strong 1st serve she was able to control the rally. In total Marta had 8 aces, compared to just 2 double faults.
It was 3rd meeting between Marta and Na Li. Both previous matches were won by chinese player. It was great for Marta that she managed to turn everything back despite being down a set.

Australian Open: Marta beats Sofia !!

For the first time in here tennis career Marta reached 3rd round of Grand Slam tournament !!! It was possible thanks to 7:5, 1:6, 6:1 victory over Sofia Arvidsson (WTA 80) in Australian Open 2nd round.
First set was very close and dramatic as almost all games were decided after deuces. Marta was 5:2 up but could not close this set. At 5:4 and Sofia serving Marta had around 5 set points, but Sofia managed to level the score. Thankfully Marta was able to forget about missed chances and she held her serve and then immediately broke Sofia to win 1st set. Both 2nd and 3rd sets were dominated by one of players but it was Marta who won the decisive set winning 5 games in a row from 1:1.
In order to reach last 16 of Australian Open Marta has to beat seeded 24th Na Li from China.
Another good information is that thanks to performance in Melbourne Marta will be again ranked among 100 best tennis players in the world. Success over Arvidsson was Marta’s 13 consecutive victory on tour. |

Marta vs. Sofia for the 4th time.

Second round Australian Open match between Marta and Swedish player Sofia Arvidsson will be overall their 4th meeting. All 3 matches took place in 2006. Arvidsson won the most important one, in February in final of WTA event in Memphis Sofia claimed the title wining in 3 sets 6:2, 2:6, 6:3. Both next meetings happened in October. Marta was the winner of the 1st one 7:6(4), 7:6(1) in Tokio, while Sofia revenged 3 weeks later in qualifications of Linz 3:6, 6:4, 7:6(4).
Arvidsson looks to be in good form. In 1st round in Melbourne she outplayed seeded 10th, last year Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli 6:7(3), 6:4, 6:3. Last week in Sydney she scored a victory over Russian star Elena Dementieva. On the other hand Marta, who is on 12 matches winning streak (8 matches won in ITF in Poitiers, and 4 here in Melbourne). Hopefully both players will show good tennis.

Wild card Mathilde Johansson (WTA 134) from France will be Marta’s 1st round opponent in main event. Marta and Mathilde have already played once against each other. Last year in qualification for WTA event in Paris Johansson won 7:6(5), 6:0. So Marta will have a chance to revenge in Melbourne. They will play their match on Tuesday - 2nd match on court number 10.

In new WTA ranking announced today Marta moved up from postion 179 to 143. In Poitiers Marta scored 73 points, and that represent almost 1/3 of all Marta’s points - 238.
Success in Poitiers ITF 100.000$ challenger is Marta’s 6th overall but first tournament victory since 2003. It is also the biggest tournament that Marta has even won. Till this week Marta was unbeaten in 3 ITF 25.000$ tournaments (Toruń’03, Belfort’04, Warsaw’04) and 2 ITF 10.0000$ events (Olecko’02, Stokholm’02). |

Marta unbeaten in Internationaux Féminins de la Vienne ITF Challenger in Poitiers !! In today’s final our player defeated Anna Lapushchenkova from Russia 7:5, 6:0. Match lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes.
At 2:3 in 1st set Marta asked trainer for help. Groin strain was the reason. Thankfully nothing serious happened and Marta was able to continue. Being 2:5 down in 1st set Marta managed to win 11(!!) games in a row to clinch the title.
Not many people expected Marta to finish her tough season with a tournament victory. Congratulations Marta :) |

Marta lost in the second round of WTA tournament in Stockholm. Our player, who was one of the four qualifiers, was defeated by the fellow Pole - Agnieszka Radwańska. Our player had many chances of winning games, but lost most of her occasions to hold a serve after deuces. The result was 6:0, 6:3 for Radwańska, who won just a total of 19 points more than Marta in the whole match, and just six more in the second set. The match lasted almost an hour and 15 minutes.
Marta got 22 points for her singles appearance, and will move up in rankings next week to around 180th place. |

Seeded 9th and world ranked 12th Dinara Safina needed 2 hours and 4 minutes to defeat Marta 6:3, 5:7, 6:3 in 2nd round of Pacific Life Open.
During the whole match Marta had 6 aces and just 1 double foult. In 1st set Safina took an early break for 3:0 and managed to hold it till the end. In 2nd set Marta was up 3:1 but few minutes leter she held from 0:40 at 4 all. Decisive break happened in 12th game - Marta used her 3rd set point. In final set Dinara immediately broke Marta. Marta was able to close the gap from 1:4 to 3:4 but it was Safina who won last 2 games and the match.

In todays first round match of Rogers Cup presented by National Bank (WTA T1, $1,340,000) Marta managed to beat Alicia Molik from Australia 7:6(1), 7:6(5). Rain stopped play for about 30 minutes at 3 all in 2nd set. Marta played good tennis and she was very happy after the final point.
In 1hour and 50 minutes match both players lost their serve only once. In second set tie break at 4:4 Molik hit a ball that appeared to be on the line. However, Marta stopped the point to challenge a call and she was right - the ball was out to give Marta 5:4 lead.
In 2nd round Marta will face seeded 4th Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia.

In 2nd round of Proximus Diamond Games (WTA Tier II, 600.000$) world ranked number 8th, Russian player Elena Dementieva defeated Marta 6:3, 7:6(5) in almost 2 hours match.
In 1st set at 2:5 and 0:15 Marta asked for a medical time out due to back injury and left the court. Thankfully back problems were not so serius and Marta was able to contiune. Second set was very close, almost all first games ended after deuces. Elena took a 4:1 leading but Marta didn`t give up. She won next 4 games playing superb tennis and making use of Elena`s mistakes. At the end both players were holding their serves and this set went into tie break. Elena`s experience was the key - she won it 7:5 and the whole match in streight sets.
For this performence Marta deserves an acknowledgement. It was a good and close match againt one of the best player in the world. |

After 3 sets match Marta managed to beat Anastasia Yakimova 6:3, 3:6, 6:3 in semifinal of Internazionali Tennis Val Gardena ITF Challenger.
In tomorrows final Marta will face Eva Birnerova from Czech Republic who defeated Olga Blahotova 3:6, 6:2, 6:3. This will be 4th match between Marta and Eva. All previos matches were very close, but Marta was able to finish them successfully.
Marta and Eva will play tomorrow around 7 PM.

In Saturday`s semifinal Marta will play Anastasia Yakimova and it will be 3rd match between these players. Both previous meetings (Torun`03, Palermo`04) were won by Marta. Semifinal will start at 6 PM.

Angela Haynes (WTA 107) qualified for main draw at JPMorgan Chase Open after streight sets victories over Kelly Liggan and Maria Fernanda Alves. Marta and Angela will play today as a 4th match on court number 4 in a first round battle in Los Angeles.
They both met in August 2003 during Columbus ITF Chall. qualifications with Marta winning this match 3:6, 6:3, 6:4.
In Sony Ericsson WTA Ranking released today Marta climbs to career-best positions - 47th in singles and 78th in doubles. On the other hand Marta has to defend this week 105 points gained in Sopot last year.

Definitely a match that not happens very often. After 2 hours and 46 minutes, saving few match points Marta and Maria Kirilenko defeated Shinobu Asagoe and Shahar Peer with a unusual score 4:6, 7:6(18!!), 7:6(5) in Acura Classic doubles 1st round. They will now play seeded 3rd Conchita Martinez & Virginia Ruano-Pascual.
That 2nd set tie break, that ended after 38 points with a score of 20:18, is the longest doubles tie-break in the Open Era !! The same score happened back in 1984 at Amelia Island event when Rosie Casals and Kathleen Horvath finally defeated Sandy Collins and Beth Kerr in a first round battle.
Today Marta will play her singles match against Kim Clijsters in second round of Acura Classic. This match has been chosen as the main attraction of the day and will be played on central court as the only match in night session in San Diego. |

Paolo Cannova became Marta`s new coach. Paolo has 31 years and comes from Palermo in Italy. In years 2001-2003 her worked as WTA trainer helping players as an assistant, sparring partner or fitness coach. He also worked with players like Justine Henin-Hardenne and Williams sisters. Then he came back to Palermo and worked with kids till June this year.

| For the 1st time in career Marta entered the top 50 in singles WTA ranking and the top 100 in doubles !! In WTA ranking announced today Marta moved up from position 52 to 48 in singles and from 109 to 96 in doubles. After 1st round 6:3, 6:3 victory over Stéphanie Cohen-Aloro Marta once again was beaten by Flavia Penetta. Like last year in Sopot it was a streight set match with Flavia winning it 6:4, 6:3 at the end.
In doubles playing with Silvija Talaja Marta was forced to withdraw from 2nd round match. She cought a virus (40° C fever) and was unable to play.

| I would like to apologize everyone who tried to visit Marta`s site in last 10 days. For the first time we had some problems with transfer limit. When Marta was successfully playing in Strasbourg more then 2000 people were visiting this site every day and that coused those problems. After wining 1st set Marta was also up 4:2 in second. Ai fought back to level the match in close tie break. In decisive set it was the other way round. Marta was trailing 4:2 but she managed to win it 7:5 .
Also in doubles Marta is in quaterfinal. Together wirth Marlene they defeated Darija Jurak & Lilia Osterloh 7:5, 6:3.

Marta was not able to beat Venus today. Williams proved why she is one of world best tennis players. She broke Marta in 4th game and managed to hold this leading and claim a 6:2 victory in final set.
Overall it was a very good week for Marta. She put a fight against a top 10 player and was not that far away from a big surprise. |

Marta will have a chance to play against Venus Williams !! Today Marta advanced to 3 rd round of Amelia Island Bausch & Lomb Championships with a dramatic 6:3, 3:6, 6:4 victory over Virginia Ruano Pascual from Spain.
Marta played a great first set. She broke Ruano Pascual in 8th game for a 5:3 lead. In whole set Marta hit 18 winners compared to just 7 unforced erros. In 2nd set Marta made more mistakes. She got broken in 6th game and Ruano Pascual managed to level this match. In decisive set Marta was 4:2 down, but was able to hold her service in 7 game facing few break points. Last 3 games also were very close, Marta finished this match on 2nd match point opportunity.

"(...) Another good singles match was Domachowska over Salerni. Marta had a very vocal group of relatives/friends supporting her. The referee had to ask them to keep it down once. They weren’t that bad. Marta took it 6-4 in the 3rd set (...) it was close and quite tense towards the end. Marta won because she raised the level of her game under the pressure, whereas Salerni cracked just a little bit. Marta hit some drop shot winners in extreme pressure situations, including on match point (which clipped the net and dropped over for a winner). |

| Dramatic match on court number 4 today. After exactly 2 hours Marta defeated Maria Emilia Salerni in close 3 sets battle. Marta won 1st set 6:3 in about 30 minutes. Salerni took an early break in 2nd set to level the match at 1:1. 3rd set could have gone either way. Marta was up 3:0, but later she saved 3 game points for 3:5. Marta hold her nerves at the end and managed to break Salerni in 10th game of 3rd set. Final score 6:3, 3:6, 6:4 for Marta who will now play seeded 28th Anabel Medina Garrigues. |
